Admission

One ticket covers the whole building for the day. Leave and come back on the same ticket.

The permanent collection

Rooms One to Three, always free. No ticket needed; walk in.
The exhibition in Room Four

Valid all day, and on the Thursday evening of the same week if you cannot stay.
Concessions

Students, over sixties, anybody out of work, and carers. Ask at the desk; we do not ask for proof.

Free at all times, in every room, with or without an adult.

From five until eight the whole building is free, exhibition included.
The year card

Both exhibitions, all the talks, and two guests each time. It pays for itself on the third visit.

Cash and card both work at the desk. Nothing is booked in advance except school groups.

Getting here

The building is the stone one at the end of Quay Street, with the clock on the water side.

On foot
Twelve minutes from the market square, straight down Quay Street. The last stretch is cobbled.

By bus
Two routes stop at the harbour office, one minute away. Both run every twenty minutes until seven.

By bicycle
Racks under the arch on the north side, covered and in sight of the desk.

By car
No parking at the museum. The quay car park is a four-minute walk and is free after six.

Questions

Is the museum accessible?
All four rooms are on one floor and step-free from the quay entrance. The Quay Street door has two steps, so use the ramp on the water side. There is an accessible toilet by the desk.
How long does a visit take?
About an hour for everything. Half an hour if you only want Room Four.
Can I take photographs?
Yes in Rooms One to Three, without flash. Not in Room Four while paper is on show.
Is there somewhere to leave a bag?
Lockers by the desk, free, and large enough for a rucksack. Big bags cannot be carried in the rooms.
Are children welcome?
Very. There is a drawer of handling objects in Room Two that children may pick up, and a trail sheet at the desk.
Can we bring a school or a group?
Groups of ten or more should write first so that we can spread them across the morning. A volunteer will usually meet you.
Is there a cafe?
No. There are three within two minutes on Quay Street and the desk will point you at the nearest open one.
Are dogs allowed?
Assistance dogs everywhere. Other dogs in the yard, where there is water and shade.

Telephone the desk. Somebody answers during opening hours and will tell you honestly whether it is worth the walk.
